Success vs Happiness PT.2 My Son's Buck

I covered an area in the first portion of this particular blog but now let's look at a different area. Earlier this year I took my son out for a hunt trip during the Ohio Youth Gun season. Some have seen the video and some might not have. I will leave a link for you at the end of this blog to be able to view it (don't forget to click like and subscribe).

It was a nice brisk morning the wind was right and the deer was moving. I got my son up about 5am and he was ready to go. We stopped for breakfast at our favorite breakfast stop (waffle house). We got to our hunting spot (public land); got our hunting clothes on and began our trek through the woods to a place I had previously scouted. No one else was around in this area of about 400+ acres. So we felt comfortable in this area and our hopes of harvesting a deer went up from 100% to 110%. This would be my 9 yr old son's first deer. So we get set up with our scent sticks that we were given to try out. So after about 45 min. we began to hear movement then we seen movement in the distance. After another 45min. to an hour we hear more footsteps getting closer and out of the corner of my eye on my right I see a monster buck the biggest I have ever seen in my hunting career (I was shaking). We sat still and the buck got to within 20-30ft. of my son and I. The bad thing about it was our backs was to him and he came up so quick that if we were to move even slightly to turn to get a better look he would have spooked and run off for good. So we sat still for what seemed liked 20 min. at the time but was actually just a few seconds. Well he knew something wasn't right so he turned tail and walked off. About 15 min. went by and he circles back around with in 40 yrds behind some brush (no clear shot) so we waited for him to step out from behind the brush. He winded and heard some dogs barking off in the distance but getting closer. That spooked him off and he disappeared not to see him again that day.As he ran off I looked over my son's shoulder (sitting opposite of me but facing my direction) and saw 4 does coming in like they were on a string. Then they got a smell of the dogs and they took off back the way they came. The dogs we come to find out were being used for rabbit hunting and they had bells around there neck so all the deer in that area were gone. As we began to pack up and head out because our spot was blown out by the dogs we passed the guys that were rabbit hunting. One guy asked if we had seen anything and I said" yeah till your dogs came in and spooked the deer off" and wouldn't you know it not one apology at all. The only thing he had to say was " is today opening day for youth gun season?" I said "YEAH!!" he then with a smug look said "oh ok better luck next time". I figured the best thing for us to do was keep walking before I went postal (lol).

I consider this a successful hunt because I was out with my son and he had a couple opportunities despite the guys that failed to read there yearly published rule book with new info every year. We still had a blast so we had Success which made us Happy. Remember the difference in Success and Happiness is the circumstances and how you see it and not always registered in monetary value. Thanks for reading.

Success VS Happiness pt.1

Happiness vs Success a lot of folk have trouble with the difference between the two when they let there whole life revolve around money thinking it's making them happy but it's not so that's why they search and search and can never seem to find it; true happiness that is. The reason is there are to many options for people with a lot of money. I explained to an individual that being rich should not just be encompassed with how much money an individual has but the smile and the peace of mind he/she wakes up with in the morning. We all have our problems 9 times outta 10 they are money related. This is why this country and so many marriages and relationships are in trouble. EVERYONE wants that extra dollar. Why? to get more stuff that you don't have room for? To get a head of the next person? to gain the edge over a neighbor to "keep up with the Jones's"? Whats the purpose of that? a waste of precious time and resources.

I find my priorities become different as I get older. This is the reason why most times you can find me in the outdoors walking, hunting or fishing with my family. I find that true happiness can only come when your happy with yourself and your life. Each one of us have different ways or means of happiness. One thing to be able to find happiness is to be honest with yourself--- be true to yourself. If you know me personally you know that being with my family (wife and kids) and being in the outdoors is what brings me happiness. Having money is a good thing don't get me wrong but shouldn't a persons life revolve around things that has sustenance? or should a persons world revolve around materialistic things that fade or parish or could become non-existent at the drop of a dime. Sure I would love a new truck but the one I have now runs, needs a lil work but still gets me where I need to go.

We have a show called March's Outdoor Adventures and it is based on the finer things in life.... God, Family, Friends and the Outdoors the true finer things of life. Success is getting what you want, happiness is being happy with what you get. Stay happy my friends and get to the outdoors.

The Wanted Deer

The Wanted Deer

Hey guy's it's good to finnaly be back on deerspace. It's been a long time since I've been on here. So some people already know this but not every one. So I'm going to tell all of you what I did on a hunt with my dad. We where at on my grandparents land and my uncle's land when we where hunting. So my dad and I where in my in my uncle's stand and my brother and a family friend where in my dad's stand not to far from where we where. And we where there all day and I was just praying that I could shot a deer. So a few hours later I was sitting down and waitint, and waiting. Finnaly my dad says slowly get the gun! So I do and by this time my hart is just punping really fast. My dad already has the camra so we get in our spots and when the little 4 pointer stops, my dad says ready I say yes but not really cuz I am just shacking real bad. So I start to calm down to get ready to shot. So then I shot it and it drops on it's back and starts kicking and just stops moving and breathing. So then my dad and I are selabrating and everything like that. By this time I have the gun out of my hands. Not even 5 minutes later my dad looks out the window and the deer gets up and starts running. Then he says hury up get the gun and follow me! We search for him every where and we find blood trales and thats all. We search all night and can't find him. So we go back to my grandparent's house. Then we start where we left off in the morning. Nothing but blood again. So we go to the stand and see if he comes back. He doesn't  ! So we had to go home and I'm just mad the hole time. So a few weeks later my dad gets a call from some one who helped us track him. And he says that I just shot him alittle bit high. So can't wait till next year cuz the wond has healed and I hope I can kill him next time!

Don’t Settle For Ordinary

Encouragement can come in many forms. Sometimes it is the courageous, honest words of a friend or loved one that help us make a course correction away from self-defeating and limiting behavior. Such words were spoken to me one cold and windy morning. Perhaps a little background might help.
As a young person I was very ambitious. Impatience, fueled by an intense desire to succeed, led me to forego college and start my first business straight out of high school. I was not suspicious or afraid of “get rich quick” schemes; on the contrary, I wanted to get rich, and the quicker, the better.
By my mid-twenties my drive had propelled me to a level of success that included fancy cars, a beautiful home, international travel, and as my playground. All this was clear evidence that I had joined the ranks of those who had “made it.”
At the age of twenty-eight my business failed. Having merged my whole identity with the business, when it disintegrated, so did I. Besides having nothing, I felt I was nothing. The downhill slide was slow, steady and painful. Convinced that I had blown the most wonderful opportunity life would ever present, I saw no promise in the future whatsoever.
I took refuge in late nights out with friends, which severely threatened my marriage. Ironically, it was my wife who rescued me.
One morning I came to the breakfast table nursing a king-sized hangover-not exactly a time when one is looking for advice! However, my receptiveness was of no concern to my wife, who was determined to confront me with the truth.
My reaction for two years had been to be a victim and to remain a victim. My behavior of blaming, excuse making and finger pointing was getting me nowhere. The guidepost to a positive future flashed like a neon sign: personal responsibility. It was a road that I knew would not be easy, but upon which I was ready to embark without the slightest hesitation.
Since that morning, I have built a successful new business, and produced videos, graduated from broadcasting school at the top of my class. There has been no greater learning for me than within the events and circumstances of our lives is the wisdom upon which to build our futures.
My life has taught me that mistakes don’t matter, failure doesn't matter. What matters is that we continue to move forward and grow from our experiences. Hal Prince, the famous Broadway producer, said: “Anyone who hasn’t had a failure is an amateur.”

What You Can Learn In The Outdoors

There are different things that we all use on a day to day basis to try and help us cope. There is a place and a way to find what it is your looking for a real simple place. It's a place I go for peace and to get clarity and to communicate with the one I can depend on when no one else can fit the bill. Even sometimes I might not understand his ways but because I trust him things tend to work out for my betterment even if at that time it hurts. Everything happens for a reason. The answer is I go to the the outdoors whether I am in a blind or in a tree stand or just walking or sitting on the ground. Check it out there are several reasons why this place helps with everyday life.

1. Peaceful---When there is peace there is clarity of mind. Often times we are our worst judge and our own best friend. But when you practice positivism in your life this becomes more substantial.

2. Life -----When your out in the outdoors you see life and how it operates if you approach it with an open heart and mind you begin to see that what ever your situation it's really not as bad as it seems and there is a way out but because we become so hard on ourselves we fail to see the true reality of a situation and sometimes it is an easy fix.

3. fresh Air--- Fresh air cleanses from the inside brings a calming of nerves and makes the senses more aware. My grandpa told me once that  if you go to the outdoors and listen to whats around you the very answers that you are looking for can be found.

I take along with me certain Bible scriptures with me when out in the outdoors. Now whether you are a believer or not you have to agree that there are certain scriptures that bring you peace and encouragement. I challenge you to search the bible and let scriptures that help you on your journey bring you peace and understanding. My final thought for today is GET TO THE OUTDOORS and find your peace and don't forget to take a young person with you.

Humble yourself daily

Humble yourself daily before The Lord and He will lift you up-James 4:10.

Many times in life we forget about the simple things in life but those are the things that keep us and the very thing that made us. I as well as many others take for granted, OUR FREEDOM our LIBERTY our LIFE the very AIR that we breath. We often times waist most of our day murmuring and complaining but seeing others less fortunate help me see that the ""big problem I thought I had became so small. So what our home is in foreclosure; what about the family who don't have anything right now. Sometimes as humans we can be so selfish that it's sickening. I heard a politician the other day bet another politician on national TV 10k why can't you give that away you pampas fool what arrogance this guy has. If we learn to humble ourselves daily this would push this country and individuals further along in life. Sorry if this sounds like a rant but SOMEONE needs to speak up and say something (There is plenty doing so) but maybe this little blog post might get read by someone and it clicks. If we all do our part it would help in sooooo many ways. I know a guy who one day I hope I get the honor to meet. He lives in TN. a hunting friend of mine. Despite what he is going through he still sees it as a duty not an obligation to give food from his garden without asking for anything in return. Accentuate The Positive

What are you paying more attention to these days? What seems to be on a continuous loop on the record player of your mind? I’m amazed at how much time I can spend thinking about things that make me upset the negative that surrounds us day in and day out we got politicians and public figures doing STUPID stuff. We got coaches that's supposed to be setting examples for our young people destroying there lives not saying this is something new but seems to have gotten more noticeable within the past few years. We got religious leaders destroying people instead of building them up. What should be thoughts of happiness sometimes end up replaying over and over again until my emotions get all mixed in and, before I know it, I’m feeling blue because of how society's perception on things has become so twisted.Does this happen to you? It’s not so much that your thoughts are bad. Thoughts are thoughts. They come and go. Unfortunately, some of those thoughts like to hang around and the more attention we focus on them, the bigger they grow.We need to shift our perspective. For example, instead of paying attention to the one driver who cut you off, dwell on the otherwise safe drive you’re having. Think about how fortunate you are to have a car and be able to commute. Enjoy the scenery. In other words, take your eyes off of the negative and refocus your attention on the positive. You’ll find your outlook on life brightening and suddenly the things that bug you will seem smaller and smaller. This is why I encourage so many to get to the outdoors it is truly a reminder of how blessed we are. Do you remember this old song? You’ve got to accentuate the positive Eliminate the negative And latch on to the affirmativeDon’t mess with Mister In-Between Try it! See what happens when you think on the good things. try looking in the mirror sometimes and tell yourself " TODAY I WILL BE A POSITIVE EXAMPLE FOR MYSELF TO BE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON SOMEONE ELSE". Change starts with us

The power of Discipline and Balance

Why are some people around us more successful than others? Why do some people make more money, live happier lives and accomplish much more in the same number of years than the great majority or I do? I started out in life with a few rough edges. I did not graduate from high school but got my GED. I worked at menial jobs because i was told that was all I could do with my education.Limited skills and a limited future. And then I began asking, “Why are some people more successful than others?” This question changed my life.Over the years, I have read thousands of books and articles on the subjects of success and achievement as well as watch others trying to figure out what they were doing. It seemed that the reasons for these accomplishments have been discussed and written about for more than two hundred years, in every conceivable way. One quality that most philosophers, teachers and experts agree on is the importance of self-discipline. As Al Tomsik summarized it years ago, “Success is tons of discipline.” Whether your in the woods hunting or going through everyday life there has to be 2 things DISCIPLINE AND BALANCE without these two key ingredients life becomes harder than needed.

Projects Make Dreams Happen

Big dreams get stalled, fail or even die when we put them on a to-do list. You can’t put write a book or move to a new home on an action list. I once saw “have a baby,” on a woman’s list. When I lightly suggested there were probably a few prerequisites required, she blushed.Accomplish big and long term dreams by breaking them down into projects that you are passionate about achieving. Remember the old proverb, How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Similarly, big dreams need to be broken down into smaller projects.
Projects, like goals, have a definite end result that you will intend to reach by a certain date. I recommend you create projects that can easily be completed in one month or less. Why? We are motivated by results and a month is a long enough period of time where you can produce a substantial outcome while still keeping your passion ignited. Some good reading

Learning From Failure

The times in life when things do not work out can be the most powerful. Try to embrace these experiences with the attitude that they are opportunities to learn, grow and evolve. Forgive yourself and use failures as a doorway to your dreams. Here are some inspirational quotes on failure

----If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down."

Mary Pickford
----"What looks like a loss may be the very event which is subsequently responsible for helping to produce the major achievement of your life."
Srully D. Blotnick
----"We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery."

What really matters in equipment

I was going to write a review yesterday on the Muzzy Broad Head cause I have a liking for them because they have always done well by me. However by speaking and engaging in conversation earlier today with some more experienced bow hunters I found out that when it comes to bow hunting it sometimes isn't the product but the individual using the product that matters. One person put it simple and plain as long as it shoot straights and accomplishes the goal the person shooting has set then that's all that matters. Now weather you prefer fixed , mechanical, 2blade, 3blade, carbon or aluminum in the end the only true thing that matters is how the person using the product feels about it. I thank all those who contributed there input this morning during the conversation it truly was an eye opener and hopefully this might help some that are straddling the fence on what to use or what grain to use. The only advice I can give you is try it if you like it cool if not try something else. That's how they did it back in the day trial and error. remember this " THERE IS NO WRONG WAY IN DOING SOMETHING YOU JUST FOUND 100 DIFFERENT WAYS NOT TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY".

NO SEX SINCE 1955

A crusty old Marine Sergeant Major found himself at a gala
event hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of
young, idealistic ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant
Major and asked,

'Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very
Serious man. Is something bothering you?'

'Negative, ma'am. Just serious by nature.'

The young lady looked at his awards and decorations and
said, ''It looks like you have seen a lot of action?''

''Yes, ma'am, a lot of action.'

The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation,
said,

'You know, you should lighten up a little. Relax and enjoy
yourself.'

The Sergeant Major just stared at her in his serious manner.

Finally the young lady said, 'You know, I hope you don't
take this the wrong way, but when is the last time you had sex?' '

'1955,' he replied.

'Well, there you are. No wonder you're so serious. You
really need To chill out! I mean, no sex since 1955!

She took his hand and led him to a private room where
she proceeded to 'relax' him several times.

Afterwards, panting for breath, she leaned against his bare
chest
and Said, 'Wow, you sure didn't forget much since 1955.'

The Sergeant Major said in his serious voice, after glancing
at his watch, 'I hope not; it's only 2130 now.'

Make the Most of your day

When was the last time you complained that you had too much time on your hands? You probably cannot remember that far back. The truth is that most of us cannot squeeze into a 24-hour period all the items written on our daily planners. A common mistake most people make is to attempt to find time instead of make time! How do you MAKE time? 1, define your most important goals: A burning desire to reach a specific goal motivates you to make time to take the required actions. Write down specifically how you will use extra time. Will you spend it making personal calls, three-way calls, attending training meetings, making new contacts? 2, chart your time: Note how you spend each hour. Most time is wasted, not in hours, but in minutes. A bucket with a small hole in the bottom becomes just as empty as the one that is deliberately kicked over. 3, organize your time to plug the time leaks: Assume the attitude that every minute that does not work for you, works against you.

A Positive action

Action eradicates fear. No matter what you fear, positive, self-affirming action can diminish or completely cancel that which you are fearful of.Everyone who's ever taken a shower has an idea. It's the person who gets out of the shower, dries off, and does something about it that makes a difference. -Nolan Bushnell Act with purpose, courage, confidence, competence and intelligence until these qualities ‘lock in’ to your subconscious mind.

Remembering the true reason why we hunt

I never new the joy of being a dad until I took my daughter hunting one year and we were sitting in the woods and my youngest daughter Danielle we call her "MOMO" was sitting asking how long we were going to be there and i replied just a couple hours. I later asked if she wanted to shoot this doe that came along she replied "no" I said "huh" confused by the reply from her I was stunned so I replied  to her " then why did you even bother coming hunting with us this morning if you didn't she want to hunt anything she replied " to spend time with my daddy". That was a wake up call that I have been hunting for so long focused on the hunt and harvesting that which I hunted for I forgot the value of the being in the outdoors all together especially with my girls. Don't forget the value and freedom we have in the outdoors and most importantly don't forget or take for granted the lessons and value we can all learn from our children. The Dash That Tells Your Life Story

If you're not doing something with your life, then it doesn't matter how long you live. If you're doing something with your life, then it doesn't matter how short your life may be. A life is not measured by years lived, but by its usefulness. If you are giving, loving, serving, helping, encouraging, and adding value to others, then you're living a life that counts! I am reminded of job and the life he led God expected something from him and he had to be brought to a place of surrender to give it to him. Ask yourself what is it that God wants from me and am I truly giving it to him. Job said that he wanted to be defined by his grave stone and that little dash in between the dates tells your life story from the time you were born till the time you die what will yours tell about you.

It Aint By Accident

  • My dear brother or sister Do Not give into sadness and depression for what is happening to you today. GOD KNOWS HOW YOU FEEL........he knows exactly and with perfection what is being allowed to happen to you in your life at this precise moment. Remember "JOB">>>>>>>> You can make it no matter what..... God's purpose for you is perfect and exactly that for you.... he wants to show you things that only you can understand by living what you are living, and by being in the place where you are now.
